The changing face of
school photography
…with
leading the way
Kat Toft, owner of Artis Headshots, gave us her
take on the new direction for school photography.
1. What’s driving the shift away from traditional
school photography?
I think parents are bored with the standard plain backdrop
and awkward looking child, and either buy it begrudgingly
or don’t buy it at all. I think photos that show students
looking relaxed and happy along with seeing a part of the
school would be a much better memory for that moment
in their lives.
2. What do parents value from school photos?
I think firstly a really lovely, natural photo, and many
students don’t achieve that on the one shot they are
normally permitted. Thats why we allow a little longer per
child to let them loosen up a bit, and give parents a choice
of images. I think the other important thing parents value
is the ability to buy exactly what they want at a reasonable
price, as apposed to being offered random packages with
poor quality products.
3. What do you offer that is different?
• A real choice. A minimum of four completely different
photos such as ull bodies, close ups, big smiles or more
serious images.
• A natural background using the school grounds, if possible
a different section of the school per year group.
• Quality products. Parents can buy full sized digital files to
do exactly what they want with, or quality matted prints
like you would find in a professional studio with easy to use
online ordering.
• Free marketing, staff and database shots for any school
we work with.
4. Can any school use your services?
Yes, we cover the whole of the UK. We have some restrictions
for a minimum size of school, and popular times of year book
up very quickly, but can normally make it work. Just get in
touch at enquiries@artisheadshots.com or give me a call or
message on 07714 290197 to discuss what we can do with
your school.
